Why do Minnesotans have all the fun?

Did you know my paternal grandfather was born and raised in Minnesota? He stopped having fun, though, possibly because he moved away.

Slogging through a Minnesota winter, though, not so fun.

But I do love the Twin Cities, and when there in not-winter, often miss it. Have you ever been?

I follow a link from a comment in [info]elisem's journal, and find a comment from someone I know? Hi! :-)

And yes, we Minnesotans do have all the fun. It makes up for the fact that it snows in April.

I grew up in the hilly Northern Tier of PA. I do understand April snow. Even occasional May snow. A frost-free growing season from June 15 to September 1.

But here (I live near San Francisco now), we have frost maybe once every two, three years and roses blooming twelve months a year. We are all going to hell, but it's worth it. It's worth it.

FFS, there's serious discussion of it snowing here tomorrow. Which is Not Right. We have had more than our fair share of winter this year and I would like it to go back where it belongs, thanks. *shoves snow northward*

Here, take my snow shovel.

I won't be using it.

It melted off by the time we were done with Suzuki (about 10:30), but...yeah. Snow on the grass, this morning. Feh.

It's hailed intermittently all day, but not too hard; as I remarked to C., "I think our standards have changed since we started living here. If we'd had weather like this in the East Bay, I'd've stayed in all day, but here I've been outside for six or seven hours, walking around and riding buses, and I don't feel all that put-upon."

It snowed in *Seattle* yesterday, I am assured by a Trustworthy Source.

Now that's just *wrong.*

No, but one of my sisters moved there directly from a year in Africa, and I have a lot of friends there.

I grew up in the hills of northeast PA. I know all I want to know about winter.

Minnesotans have all the fun? What is it that I've been having?

Beats me. But Minnesota is the traditional dream of Happy Fun Land for Bay Area folk. Just check the Best of Craigslist: We all have problems. Minnesota is NOT the solution.

Seriously, Minnesota doesn't have all the fun. But it has a lot of the fun (or fen) not monopolized by the Bay Area. Plus reasonable house prices, ten thousand lakes, and more blackflies than I even want to think about.

Don't forget the mosquitoes! (I've never had a particular problem with flies here, though.)

You might call blackflies "gnats." Definitely not house flies.

Here's a Canadian folk song video about them.

Yeah, when I was in Minneapolis this past December I thought it looked like an interesting town. But then I noticed the massive heat lamps in the bus stops, making them look like terrariums, and I was like, "Uh, no."
