Public Interest Ethnography Project - Please pass on

Public Interest Ethnography Project - Please pass on

Have you ever intervened, or seen someone else intervene, in a case of sexual assault/abuse/child sexual abuse without the use of police or conventional social services? If so, we would like to hear your story.

SFWAR is collaborating with the Oakland-based non-profit Creative Interventions and the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Mills College to support the STORY-TELLING and ORGANIZING PROJECT (STOP), which collects stories about how individuals creatively intervene in intimate forms of violence. The stories are also being collected to publish an SFWAR chapbook that will serve as a resource to help other survivors and their communities find their own paths toward healing and justice in their recovery.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE A STORY?

YOU WILL RECEIVE $20 TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROJECT

To be eligible to participate in the project, you must meet the following criteria:

** You must self-identify as someone who is a either a survivor of, or a witness to, an intimate form of violence and who has relied on something other than police or conventional social services to intervene.

** You must be willing to be interviewed once in person for 1 hour at the SFWAR office, in your home, or somewhere else where you are comfortable between October 6 and 21, 2009. A half-hour follow-up interview will also be conducted.

** You must be willing to sign an informed consent form that allows us to tape record the interview (you will be given control to strike anything from the record that you wish as well as a range of options for possible use of your recording)

If you are interested in participating in the STOP collaboration, please contact Amal Kouttab, Community Initiatives Director, SFWAR, at 415-861-2024 or by e-mail: akouttab@sfwar.org We look forward to hearing from you!
