A desk in the appropriate L configuration that I've had for decades, with my keyboard in front of me and flat reading/writing/Diet Dr. Pepper surface to my left. (Drawers are still to come -- little plastic wheely jobs from my storage unit.) The desktop computer, LCD monitor, and full-sized keyboard in its own tray at the correct level for this short person. Printer set up and ready in case I need to print directions somewhere or hard copy to edit. An office chair with wheels.
Eric Clapton singing Double Trouble live on the stereo speakers -- not on headphones, even at 4:30 AM, because nobody can overhear and be disturbed. My joedecker tree photo where I can look up and see it. He took that picture as I was packing to move here to California. Armageddon Sunrise needs to go up soon, along with a few other pictures that I love.
Inside the house I have good friends in housepet and 14cyclenotes and a wonderful lover. (And Gabriel, who is adjusting better than any of us expected.) gramina and I have been together 12 years as of last Sunday. All around me in Silicon Valley -- most of them sleeping -- I have good friends. In fact, around the world I have people I like and people I love. People who tell me fascinating things, who help me when I am stuck, who let me help them. I've got family, too, and we're at a distance where we don't make each other too crazy. I have abostick59, too, who is distant right now, but who will be back from Haiti a week from today. We've been together for 6 years. My co-lover wild_irises has been a rock of strength and a good friend in her own right.
I don't have a job, but I have a little work, and I have so much else. So much else. And I am both grateful and very, very happy.
